What Are LED Par Lights?

A PAR light is a fixed-position stage lighting fixture that throws a broad, even wash of color across a wall, backdrop, performer or dance floor. The name comes from the original Parabolic Aluminized Reflector lamp design.
Modern LED par lights use RGBW, RGBWA or RGBWA+UV LED arrays instead of hot halogen bulbs. At SHEHDS, they are the fixture most customers buy first — the easiest way to add color to a rig without programming a DMX show from scratch.

What is the difference between par lights and wash lights?

PAR lights are fixed-position fixtures that wash a wide area with color — ideal for backdrops, uplighting and stage fills. Wash moving head lights do the same job on a motorized head that can pan and tilt during the show.

What do RGBW, RGBWA and RGBWA+UV mean?

These are the LED color chips inside the fixture. RGBW adds a white chip for cleaner whites. RGBWA adds amber for warm tones. RGBWA+UV adds ultraviolet for blacklight effects. Most SHEHDS LED par lights use RGBWA+UV 6in1 LEDs.

Do LED par lights need a dimmer?

No. LED par lights have built-in dimming through DMX or onboard menus. You do not need an external dimmer pack.

What beam angle do LED par lights produce?

Most LED par lights produce a beam angle between 15° and 45° depending on the lens. Narrow lenses (15°–25°) focus light on a specific area — good for front lighting performers. Wide lenses (35°–45°) spread light broadly across a backdrop or dance floor. Some models include interchangeable lenses so you can adapt the beam angle to the venue.

How many par lights do I need for my venue?

Can I run LED par lights without a DMX controller?

For automated color cycles and standalone shows, there's also a built-in auto mode. DMX control unlocks full programming and scene-building, but it's not required to get started.
